Spouse or Common-Law Partner Open Work Permit
The spouse or common-law partner of a skilled worker may be eligible for an open work permit (C41). This allows them to work in Canada for the same duration as their spouse.
The spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who has applied for permanent residence under the Spouse and Common-Law Partner in Canada Class or Family Class and who is residing with their spouse in Canada may be eligible for an open work permit.
The dependent children of a skilled worker and the dependent children of the principal applicant in a sponsorship application may also be eligible for an open work permit.
Post-Graduation Work Permit
A Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is a once-in-a-lifetime open work permit that allows students who have graduated from an eligible designated learning institute (DLI) to work for any employer anywhere in Canada.
Bridging Open Work Permit
A bridging open work permit (BOWP) allows eligible foreign workers in Canada to continue working while their application for permanent residence is in process. The eligibility requirements depend on the type of permanent residency they have applied for.
International Experience Class Work Permit
The International Experience Class (IEC) work permit gives young adults aged 18 to 35 open work permit and employer-specific work permit options.
The IEC operates as a lottery, with a new pool opening each year.
There are also additional IEC options available through recognized organizations.
Young adults from the following countries may be eligible under the IEC, however, requirements and available programs vary by country of nationality.
